The English Department at the University of Haifa is home to innovative scholarship and teaching, focusing on the literatures and cultures of the English-speaking world. Our faculty members work in a wide range of genres and periods, from the canonical English literature of the last seven hundred years, to emergent fields and forms addressing today’s most pressing concerns: from Shakespeare to Toni Morrison, Romantic poetry to environmental studies and postcolonial science fiction, the Modernist novel to contemporary literary theory, creative writing, and translation.
Our curriculum thus responds to the demands and concerns of our changing world. We pride ourselves on our welcoming and diverse departmental culture, fostering academic rigor while attending to the individual student. At the same time, we engage with the academic community at large to offer interdisciplinary programs, research projects, social and cultural events, and study abroad initiatives.
