Dr. Yosefa Raz

My teaching and research interests combine, on the one hand, poetry and poetics, from the nineteenth- to the twenty first century, and on the other hand, the study of the biblical text, its reception/interpretation in modernity, and more broadly – intellectual history and political theology. My recent book, The Poetics of Prophecy: Modern Afterlives of a Biblical Tradition, considered the entanglement of Romantic poets, biblical scholars, revolutionaries, and public intellectuals.  I am also a poet and translator, and regard my work as a poet, as well as my students’ poetry, translations, and creative work as intrinsic to the life of the mind and the community we create.
