Originally trained in modernist literature and Lacanian psychoanalytic theory, I am a polyglot scholar whose work now focuses on Palestinian literature and culture across borders, languages, and generations. My research traces how displacement, multilingualism, and historical rupture reshape literary form, cultural memory, and political imagination.
In Being There, Being Here: Palestinian Writings in the World (Syracuse University Press, 2022), I map the global emergence of Palestinian writing across Arabic, English, Hebrew, Danish, Spanish, and other languages, proposing a new polylingual framework for understanding Palestinian literature beyond territorial or monolingual models. The book argues that Palestinian cultural production has become structurally transnational, generating multiple, uneven, and often conflicting literary futures rather than a single literary frame.
My current book project, Times of Palestine, extends this work by shifting from spatial dispersion to temporal multiplicity. It examines how Palestinian culture today operates across asynchronous historical rhythms—between catastrophe, endurance, digital immediacy, and speculative futurity—and asks how national imagination is transformed when a people inhabits multiple temporal horizons at once. Bringing together literary analysis, media theory, and global modernity, the project offers a new model for thinking about Palestine not only as a place or a past, but as an unfolding set of temporal possibilities
