כחוקרת שיח, המחקר שלי תורם להבנת יחסי צורה–תפקוד בשפה ככלי לתקשורת. אני בוחנת אילוצים על השימוש במבנים מורפולוגיים, לקסיקליים ותחביריים שונים, כפי שהם משתקפים בהקשרים תקשורתיים מגוונים, ומדגישה את מושג המיומנות (proficiency), ולא את מושג הכשירות (competence) כתופעה חברתית־קוגניטיבית. אני נשענת על השוואות טיפולוגיות, התפתחותיות ושיחיות כדי לחשוף אילוצים אלה, ולהדגים את השימוש היצירתי שעושים דוברים וכותבים באמצעים דקדוקיים בהפקת שיח. נוסף על כך, אני משתמשת ומשלבת כלים תאורטיים ומתודולוגיים ממסגרות שונות, כגון דקדוק התבניות (Construction Grammar), בלשנות קוגניטיבית, בלשנות מערכתית־תפקודית (Systemic Functional Linguistics), בלשנות קורפוס, ניתוח שיח סינכרוני והיסטורי, תחביר דיאלוגי וניתוח שיחה, כדי לתאר, להגדיר ולהסביר שימוש בשפה.
