Welcome to the Department of English Language & Literature

The Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Haifa is a center for innovative research and instruction focused on Anglophone literatures and the cultures that produced them. Offering a three-year B.A. program alongside M.A. and Ph.D. degrees across various specializations, our faculty researches and teaches a broad spectrum of genres and eras—from seven centuries of canonical English literature to emerging genres addressing contemporary challenges, spanning Shakespeare to Toni Morrison, Romantic poetry to postcolonial science fiction, and the modernist novel to contemporary literary theory, creative writing, and translation. Designed to meet the demands of a dynamic global landscape, our curriculum is conducted entirely in English across lectures, readings, and coursework, preparing students for diverse local and international career paths. The department prides itself on an inclusive, diverse community that balances uncompromising academic standards with personalized mentorship, while actively engaging with the broader academic community to offer interdisciplinary programs, research integration, cultural events, and study-abroad opportunities.
